Acupuncture

What is veterinary medical acupuncture and how can it help my pet?

Veterinary medical acupuncture is the practice of inserting very thin sterile needles at different points on the pet's body to improve the health of your pet.  This effect is brought about by sending information in the form of impulses to the brain and is referred to as neuromodulation.  Veterinary medical acupuncture training is patterned after Western medical acupuncture or biomedical acupuncture training used in human medicine. While this type of acupuncture differs from the Eastern or traditional Chinese veterinary medicine approach to acupuncture, the benefits of both approaches to acupuncture are numerous .

Benefits of acupuncture for pets  include pain control for acute pain from back injuries, chronic pain due to osteoarthritis and post surgical pain.  Acupuncture is also therapeutic in many other conditions and can provide support to patients undergoing painful procedures such as chemotherapy.  Acupuncture has been shown to increase blood flow to tissues and to increase the effectiveness of the immune system of acupuncture patients.
